Rap music was truly great up until around 1994...that was when I started to lose interest but before that - it was solid gold...some amazing albums

Run the Jewels are banging, and El-P is a genius and one of, if not the best, producer going. Saw them live a few years back and it was one of the best hip hop shows I've been to. They're funny fuckers too.

I liked Rappers Delight
I thought the Message was fantastic
I though White Lines was a bit shit
The Clash Magnificent 7 was a bit of a laugh
Then I worked in a warehouse for an Oxford St music shop and the Beasty Boys were playing non stop mixed with the sound of the heat wrapping tunnels. I have never liked it since.

Am I getting old?

When you're on a night out, nothing will fill up a dance floor and get birds shaking their arses quite like the latest Drake/Kanye track!!

I would rather listen to the sound of someone building a shed in the middle of the Tet Offensive. But to say it's all about guns and gangsters...even I think that's bollocks

Even I wouldn't put this much depth and effort into a windup, Saul.

I'm beginning to think that a few others might be though.

Come on MIM you are on a wind up. No sane person could possibly be entertained by this "genre" of "music". Own up now, your 'avin' a turkish.

Re: Rap "music"
Yes les.

Plenty of fans of acts like KRS-One, the Pharcyde, Dela Soul, Jurassic 5, Tribe Called Quest, Common etc who view 90% of the rest of the genre exactly how you do.

I reckon its likely defjam on here falls into that category.

Re: Rap "music"
Loads of rap is political, alongside punk its probably the most political modern genre of music there is.

Re: Rap "music"
One of the biggest rap groups of all time, Public Enemy, always wrote extremely political lyrics. But let's overlook them, as they don't fit the generalisation.

Fucking hell, think I managed to trump Infidel himself in the "length of post" award for the day there.
